Being broke is a difficult place to be. We get lost in the world of survival and we lose connection with self and others. We treat people poorly, we make bad decisions and we begin to hate. This mindset needs to shift. A great way of approaching life and getting back on track (no matter how far down the wrong path you find yourself) is recognizing the power of kujichagulia . Kujichagulia is a Swahili word that means "self-determination" or "the power to make our own decisions." Brokenness is just a state of being. It is not something we did, nor does it define who we are. Rather than see this as negative or fatal, we can use it to push us forward until we get to the next level of the journey. We must commit to Kujichagulia if we want to get out of this place, and live life on our own terms.
Enough of that here is your proverb:
"What the elders see while sitting the young ones standing on their toes won't see."
