The Genius of Africans United: A Call to Action

For generations, the dominant American culture has dismissed the genius of

African American people. Because of that, the mission of this book’s author is

to highlight the genius in every African individual. He contends that the

definition, recognition and declaration of these genius qualities must come

from African people themselves. The result, he says, will be a strong platform

for securing freedom, justice, equality and liberation.

This book includes Adinkra symbols, historically created by the Akan people

of Ghana, West Africa. The symbols highlight the spiritual, mental and

physical concepts, values and aphorisms of the author’s writings. The

majestic image on the cover of the book is the akoben, a war horn—a call to

action, a battle cry. The images found on the pages convey messages related

to traditional wisdom and other aspects of life.

Dr. Moriba (Richard C.) Kelsey has a doctorate in counselor education and is a

graduated with honors from Tuskegee University before completing

graduate studies at Kent State University and The Ohio State University.

Dr. Kelsey is married to Barbara Jemison Kelsey, Ph.D. They have two

daughters, Riba C. Kelsey, M.D., and Rimani C. Kelsey-Rogers, M.D., and a son,

Mondibo Kelsey (Richard C. Kelsey II), a healthcare-management consultant.
